Lake Baringo and Lake Bogoria
To the north of Nakuru, the land falls away from the highlands and gives way to two unique lakes; Lake Baringo and Lake Bogoria. Lake Bogoria was known as Lake Hannington during Kenya's colonial era.

Lake Baringo is the second fresh water lake in the Rift, covering approximately 168 Pelican at Lake Baringo, Northern Kenya.
square kilometers (104 sq. mi). The imposing Laikipia escarpment runs north-south to the east of the lake. The lake is particularly known for it's bird life; more than 460 species have been sighted here. In this area you will find pelicans, herons, and storks; all attracted by the numerous small fish found here. A boat ride will give you the opportunity to see, and photograph, a large variety of water birds, crocodiles and hippos.

At 975 meters (3,185 ft), Lake Baringo is hot and sometimes humid. New roads and expanded accommodation at the Lake Baringo area have attracted people to the area, though it is still unspoilt and retains it's distinct exclusivity.

Lake Bogoria is a stretch of blue water lying in the shadow of towering cliffs. Saline charged, Lake Bogoria has the added attraction of hot geysers gushing from the earth bowels.
The boiling volcanic springs are a magnificent sight! Greater kudu are found in Lake Bogoria National Reserve as well as huge flocks of flamingoes. The reserve covers an area of approximately 110 sq. km (44 sq. mi).

Circle K Safaris organizes exclusive safaris to these two beautiful reserves.

LAKE TURKANA NATIONAL PARK
Lake Turkana National Parks is a group of three national parks located in Kenya. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 and expanded in 2001. Reasons for the park's importance include its use as a stopping point for migratory birds, as a breeding ground for the Nile crocodile, hippopotamus, and snakes. It also contains fossils in the Koobi Fora deposits which are unique in the world. Lake Turkana National Parks consist of Sibiloi National Park and two islands on Lake Turkana

Crocodile at Lake Turkana. Breeding ground for croc's and hippo'sSpecial Features: One of the island is actually a dormant volcano that occasionally emits sulphurous steam and smoke. It is a symbolic relic of the massive upheavals that occurred in the earth's crust 100 million years ago, opening a huge geological divide stretching over 3,500 miles from Ethiopia's northern Red Sea coastline to Mozambique, and that is now known as the Great Rift Valley. The island is uninhabited, and is famous as a breeding around for crocodiles. Lake Turkana which is Africa's largest Rift Valley lake, has a world's record population of over 10,000 crocodiles The lake is also noted for being the only known location of a genetically pure species of tilapia.
ACCESS: An hour's boat ride from Lake Turkana Fishing Lodge near Kalokol on the western shore. Kalokol is reachable from Kitale, via Lodwar, by air or motor The remote but world-famous Sibiloi National Park, source of the historic findings of early man, can be reached by boat or air from Kalokol, 30 miles across the lake. Volcanic vents, rising 1,000 feet above the lake, emit a ghostly luminous glow at night.

Saiwa Swamp National Park
This tiny park, which is near Mt. Elgon within the Rift Valley, was actually created to The endangered sitatunga seen at the Saiwa Swamp.protect the Sitatunga, a large beautiful webbed antelope. This antelope, which spends most of it's time partly submerged in the swamp waters, was threatened with extinction and a decision was taken to create a special habitat to ensure it continued breeding and survival.

A small population of De Brazza's monkeys, marsh mongoose, bush duicker, white tailed mongoose and the Bohor reedbuck are found in this park. The area is famous for it's birds, and views to fascinate most visitors. The open woodland is crossed by densely forested valleys, the habitat of the white-crested turacos. The colourful colobus monkey can be seen in this park.

There are several good accommodation facilities within this park including Lokitela farm and Sirikwa Safari's guest house. A camp site is also available, complete with basic amenities, which we use for our clients on camping safaris.

This area is generally known to develop cold temperatures, especially during the rainy season. We recommend you bring warm clothing if you are planning on visiting the Saiwa National Park. The evening especially can be chilly. Click here to book.
