Shimba
Hills Game Reserve
The
Shimba hills Game reserve is located in the Coastal province
of Kenya, approximately 50 kms from the city of Mombasa,
and 20 kms from South Coast. It is approximately 192
sq. km (74 sq. miles) of parkland, well known as the home
of the last breeding herd of sable antelopes. Within the
game reserve lies a spectacular tree lodge , Shimba Hills
Lodge, overlooking a waterhole, right in the middle of a
tropical rain forest. The restaurant and bar outdoors, directly
overlooking the waterhole. With Circle K Safaris, it's an
easy drive from any beach hotel in the North or South coast!
The cool climate within Shimba Hills game reserve is in
sharp contrast to the usual humid conditions prevalent in
the general coast region.
This game
reserve has buffalos, elephants, and leopards. Other animals
include bushbuck, bohor reedbuck, sykes and colobus monkeys.
Bird life is profuse including little bee-eaters, palm-nut
vultures, Fischer's turaco, hornbills and spur fowl.
